The Tri-Lakes Premier Skate Shop
Lake Placid Skate Shop came into existence based on the need in the Lake Placid community for a full service skate shop. Linda and Christie Sausa, a mother and daughter team who have been involved in figure skating for 13 years, decided to open Lake Placid Skate Shop.
Personally, Christie and Linda have been involved in figure skating in different capacities for 13 years, and involved in speed skating for 7 years. Christie has been a competitive figure skater for 13 years. She is a regional accountant and prospective judge for US Figure Skating, an avid volunteer, and a proud member of the Skating Club of Lake Placid. Christie has also speed skated competitively for 7 years, and assists in Lake Placid races. She combined her love of Lake Placid, skating and journalism into a labor of love, her blog www.lakeplacidskater.blogspot.com, which has worldwide readership. She also writes for the Lake Placid News as a special "skating" correspondent. In addition, she is the founder of a New Year's Eve event, Skate into the New Year, which is a charity event that was started to raise money for local skating organizations and teach local children to skate. The event is entering it's fourth year with "Skate into 2011".
Linda Sausa is as involved in skating as her daughter. An avid volunteer, Linda has volunteered for 13 years in various capacities in figure skating, and 7 years in speed skating. She has been an officer on several skating club boards, most recently the Skating Club of Lake Placid. Linda is an announcer with US Figure Skating, and has been coordinating competitions for 12 years. In 2005, she took on another challenge; to manage the Skating Club of Lake Placid Second Hand Shop, a consignment shop for figure skating clothing and equipment. After operating the Second Hand Shop for 4 years, she moved the shop to her new store, the Lake Placid Skate Shop. In 2009, the Skating Club of Lake Placid tranferred the items to Linda, to become the Lake Placid Skate Shop Consignment. Linda has worked for the Lake Placid Summer Skating Camp for 3 years as a rink monitor, and as such is very familiar with rink and business operations. This knowledge assisted her in her next big project; the Lake Placid Skate Shop. Linda is not going to limit the shop just to figure skating; she plans to expand into speed skating and hockey as well. As President of the Lake Placid Speed Skating Club and of the Northern New York Speed Skating Association, she is also aware of the needs of the speed skaters. Hockey is also an integral part of Lake Placid skating, and she hopes to serve them as well.
The Goal of Lake Placid Skate Shop is a simple one; to provide quality skate wear and equipment with friendly, knowledgeable service and affordable pricing. Since Christie is a skater and Linda a "skating mom", they are well aware of the needs of both figure skaters and speed skaters. Our goal is to be as helpful as possible and provide a positive place for skaters to congregate and find unique and quality skating items. We also wish to provide a place that reflects the unique Olympic and skating heritage that only Lake Placid has. Stop in and view our skating artwork, memorobilia, and photographs. We look forward to seeing you!
